Productive Updates August: Sandbox, Improved Reports, UI improvements
Usually, August is a slower part of the year, but not for Team Productive.
Keep reading to discover what we have in store for you right now.
Sandbox
With the Sandbox environment, you get a completely separate Productive account from your usual one. You can use the Sandbox to:
- Test new features without affecting your current data
- Onboard new teammates to Productive (and introduce them to your way of working)
- Experiment with various scenarios and features
Don’t worry about the data in the Sandbox—it will automatically delete every Sunday.

Updated Recognized Revenue Calculation
Using a more precise calculation, we’re introducing “soft recognition” for Scheduled Revenue on Bookings in Resourcing. This means that Scheduled Revenue on Bookings cannot exceed the total budget for fixed or capped services. Learn more about revenue recognition here.
UI Updates
Check out the new service picker on Expenses, which allows you to see the hierarchy (Project > Budget).
On the Invoicing screen, you can now add variables (e.g., custom notes, invoice numbers) using the + menu.
You can also filter teammates by Department when adding Tasks to the Workload view, and we’ve added template categories and a categories menu in the Template Center.
Drill-Down Charts
Looking for more detail in a chart? You can now hover over a section of a chart and click to drill down into the data presented. This works both in the Reports section and for widgets in Dashboards.
Wait, There’s More:
- The Approve Expenses permission has been split into two distinct permissions: Approve expenses where the user is the deal owner, and Approve expenses where the user has access.
- If you create a Budget from a Sales deal, the original deal can now be found behind the briefcase icon next to the Budget name.
- You can now create Tasks in the Workload view by clicking and dragging in the timeline.
- New Time Off Permissions are available – check them out in Settings > Permission Sets
