Productive Updates October: Retainer Rollover Hours, Improved Reports and Projects
This month, we’re introducing a range of new features and improvements designed to give you more flexibility and control.
From managing rollover hours on retainers to new Automations, dive in to see how these updates can simplify your work, and improve team collaboration.
Retainer Rollover Hours
If you have clients on retainers, you know that sometimes a pool of hours remains unused, and it’s not always clear how to transfer them to the next retainer.
Now, you can choose how to handle any rollover hours:
- For client budgets, only the deficit/surplus of billable hours will carry over to the next budget
- For internal budgets, only the deficit/surplus of worked hours will roll over
This feature supports both time-and-materials and fixed billing types. To learn more, check out this article.
New in Automations: Webhooks, Create an Invoice
You can now enhance Automations with the addition of webhooks. When an Automation finishes, it can create a webhook to send information, for example, to Zapier, extending the reach of your automations even further.
We’ve also added a new action to create Invoices, triggered by a “Budget” event. This allows for automatic draft invoices, such as when a budget is closed or past its due date.

OR/AND Filters, Bills Report
For advanced reporting, you can now apply “OR” and “AND” logic in your filters. Using AND filters means all conditions within a filter group must be met for data to display, while OR filters allow data if any one condition is met.
You can also now generate a report to view only bills from purchase orders, making expense tracking easier.
Finally, track recognized time on the Capacity & Availability report to see time attributed to each person.
Boards Are Now Called Folders
We’ve renamed project Boards to Folders to clarify project hierarchy. The updated structure now stands as Project > Folder > List > Task > Subtask > TODO.
You can reorder custom fields, which will affect how they display in Projects and Tasks.
Lastly, now you can share Docs with any Productive user in your organization, even if they’re not assigned to the related project.
Wait, There’s More:
- When customizing Invoices, Use the + button to add text variables instead of {} brackets
- Sync expense payments from Xero to Productive.
- Sandbox is now available on all pricing plans.
- Now you can create multiple custom domains for email and link them to different subsidiaries.
- Edit values in Single and Multi-select custom fields directly on the Project, instead of navigating into Settings.
- Now you can duplicate closed Tasks, TODOs and Subtasks.
Still To Come:
- More AI capabilities
- Scenario builder
- Build powerful Reports using SQL queries
- eInvoicing: Support for Peppol and XML
- Templates for Docs
We’re always looking to make your experience of using Productive better.
We’ll keep you updated as we ship more improvements. The following Monthly Updates will arrive at the beginning of December 2024.
